The Igbo people of Southeastern Nigeria have an enormous appreciation for their culture’s traditions. Masquerades, also known as Mmawu, are celebratory ceremonies. Masquerades bring people together and shine light on how the people of the Igbo tribe are timeless. These rituals showcase vibrant costumes that are meant to awaken ancestral spirits.

This is my favorite picture of masquerades that I acquired on my trip. Everything from the mood to the vibrance of this image makes it that memorable to me.
Most masquerades move in packs of people playing music called Ogene.
In this picture the masquerade is walking into a shop to either dance for the owners or harass them.
It's also said that some masquerades you can't even look at or you will (supposedly) be cursed.
